Nigerian king of Hip Hop music, MI Abaga, and one of the finest music journalists in the music game in Nigeria, Joey Akan, have gotten into a serious feud on Twitter.
MI Abaga obviously picked an offence from Joey Akan’s tweet about Nigerian rappers being “entitled”. Joey had made a tweet mocking Nigerian rappers in reference to US rapper DaBaby’s visitation to Nigeria for a video shoot with Davido.
Joey Akan seemed to have made the tweet in relation to some rappers’ outbursts at Rick Ross when the US rapper held an Easter show in Nigeria in April, 2022, and failed to feature any Nigerian rapper on the lineup of performers. Both YCee and MI Abaga had taken to social media to call Rick Ross out for organizing a Hip Hop show and employing Afrobeats artistes to perform instead of rappers.
While Joey Akan tweeted a sarcasm telling Nigerian rappers to react to DaBaby’s visitation to Davido’s house and the latter’s failure to do a ‘meet and greet’ in honour of Nigerian rappers, MI, who was seriously offended, took it personally and responded to Joey’s tweet.
Both figures went on to throw several missiles at each other, mocking, insulting and revealing some nasty secrets about each other. Both seemed to have a history dating back to few years ago and Joey particularly did not hold back.
However, the journalist who recently has been the biggest critic of Hip Hop in Nigeria seems to be insinuating that Nigerian rappers switch from Hip Hop to a more marketable genre like Afrobeats. Below are some of the exchanges between the two figures:
