Meet The First African DJ To Win The Grammys

Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe Maphumulo, a South African disc jockey, producer and songwriter professionally known as DJ Black Coffee became the first African disc jockey to win the Grammys in the history of African music and the prestigious awards itself.

The forty-six years old DJ clinched the Grammys at its 64th edition that went down at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, United States of America, on Sunday night, 3rd April, 2022.

DJ Black Coffee received the Grammys plaque.

DJ Black Coffee’s album titled Subconsciously, released in 2021, had won the Best Dance/Electronic Album category at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards last night. This historical feat also made Black Coffee the first South African DJ/producer to get a nod in the category.
